The highest paid player in 2012 was Kobe Bryant making 25M a year. In 2022 that makes you the 46th highest paid player in the league

KG was the 2nd highest paid at 21M that would have him at 56th in the league

That’s crazy how nowadays 25M is basically good starter money I think due to this why people think players like Brunson is overpaid. It wasn’t long ago when that was the max amount of money, when in reality he’s making a good amount of money yes but he’s only the 14th highest paid PG.

People who spent money thinking it would lead to a Kobe Bryant collector reward should be entitled to damages

Main Post:

Nba 2k24 isn't just a game, it's a means for a company to make money.

In the pursuit of this, they announced early on that Kobe Bryant would be ultimate player collector's reward. This serves 3 purposes:

  1. To keep people, particularly Kobe fans, playing to keep the game relevant across all platforms (relevance)
  2. To have an assured audience to see their offers in the hopes people buy, and (free exposure to deals)
  3. To leverage the idea of Kobe Bryant as added consideration for people to continuously collect players they add to the game. (added pressure to buy)

To everyone who decided that spending time and money on this game is worth it because it will all lead up to Kobe, you've not only been fooled, but you were also taken advantage of.

2k clearly benefited from their claim that Kobe would be the ultimate reward. People kept playing, people spent money, people were literally waiting for a Kobe announcement this April. All purposes have been served.

Now, they decided to not follow through on this offer and instead offer 2 100s cards.

Nevermind the exclusion of Yao Ming. Nevermind if this offer is "better" or "worse." nevermind that technically you get "more" cards.

The issue here is that an offer was made, rescinded, and replaced with another offer that clearly would not have the same impact as promising Kobe Bryant.

Would anyone spend money to have a guaranteed choice between not as popular players? Would people have grinded knowing they could just buy the cards if they wanted to?

No.

Hence, the true victims of this scam are those who grinded hours of their lives and spent money for a reward that doesn't exist.

Hopefully, someone makes something happen because this is just horrible.

Gilbert Arenas on Kobe’s parents selling his rings

Main Post:

Wth kind of argumentation is this? 🙄

Top Comment: What's wrong with what he said? I thought they got greedy when Kobe wasn't splurging on them and started selling his stuff way back. Don't think they were on best terms with Kobe, why keep rings that you don't want or don't have any use for. Get some money for them.

Quick Rant on Kobe Drops

Main Post:

Won't go too negative, but the elusive Kobe drops just don't sit right with me. I don't really see who they benefit--Nike's end goal is to make $ and increase shareholder value. They don't do that by keeping the quantity so scarce. Fair play to them keeping the price around what KD's/LeBron's go for, but the fact that so many people win these drops then immediately turn around and sell them for a huge profit just doesn't sit right with me, especially since the shoe partially has that value because it's for a legend who tragically passed away.

Not saying they need to make them as readily available as Lebrons/KDs, as there is something cool about the mystique of the drops, but the only person I've ever seen in Kobes was a 13 year old who clearly used mom's CC to purchase after market. There needs to be a better way of handling these drops, or at the very least a way to keep them out of the hands of people who just want to sell them at a huge markup.

Old Kobe Bryant cards - how to sell?

Main Post:

Hi -

I was able to avid collector as a kid and came across my old collection. I’ve tried to do some research and also read the sticky. It seems like in good condition some of these might be worth a little money but I assume these are not considered even passing condition? Does that mean they are worthless? Would a local card shop have any interest or would I be forced to go the online route? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Top Comment: There are plenty of videos on what to look for before making the decision to grade. I imagine you’ve already found your way to it, but check 130point.com and eBay for sold listings of them. You don’t have a ton so it shouldn’t be much to go through. Then factor in about $20-$25 per card graded. Careful with a LCS because they have to turn a profit. eBay charges 15% so keep that in mind if you sell them on there. If you sell on eBay, unless you send them via an eBay standard envelope, you will pay $5 at minimum for tracking to protect you and the buyer. Or just keep them all and let them appreciate or give them to your next of kin, if you have any.

Is now the best time to sell Kobe cards?

Main Post:

I was chatting with a friend who said Kobe cards will likely only going down in value over time. His rationale:

  1. In 20-30 years, and over time, more legendary players will pass away. So someone having died won’t really mean anything. Think about MJ, Magic, Bird, even Lebron no longer around. Kobe will just be another legend who is no longer around.
  2. As the game evolves, more and more people get added to the Mount Rushmore. Will kids in 20+ years idolize Kobe still? He’s top 5-10 now but hard to guarantee he stays in that realm over time.

Any thoughts or examples to refute these arguments?

Best Kobe Bryant Card Under $300

Main Post:

Just got back into collecting after 35 years and want to add a nice raw/ graded Kobe Bryant card to my collection. Not looking for short term resell but hoping the card holds value in the future. Any recommendations? Is it worth putting money into a PSA 9 or should I just stick to 10’s?
